Applying to the CIDDRG as a post-graduate student

The CIDDRG forms part of the Section of Developmental Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, which is itself part of the School of Biological, Medical and Veterinary Sciences http://www.biomed.cam.ac.uk/gradschool/prospective . We welcome applications for post-graduate research degrees. Please note that we do not normally accept part-time Ph.D. students.

Applications are made through the Board of Graduate Studies, which is responsible for the admission process including arranging a place for the student at one of the Colleges.  Applicants are strongly recommended to refer to the latest Graduate Studies Prospectus http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/univ/gsprospectus/

There are two aspects that applicants must consider:

  1. Whether there is a suitable research project available
  2. Whether you can meet the academic (including competence in English) and financial requirements.

The process is as follows:

STEP 1

  1. Find a suitable research degree course (M.Phil. or Ph.D.).
  2. Identify a suitable research project. The Research and People pages list the interests of members of the CIDDRG, but we welcome other ideas.
  3. Contact possible supervisors(s) to discuss the project. All those listed on the People page as Principal Investigators are able to accept post-graduate students; some of the Research Associates will do so too. Part of this discussion will focus on funding. We have no funding routinely available but support applicants to access funding through studentships, grants, and so on.

STEP 2

  1. Ensure you meet the academic requirements and that you have at least discussed with your supervisor how you intend to meet the financial requirements.
  2. Choose possible Colleges.
  3. Obtain an application pack and study the Graduate Studies Prospectus.

STEP 3

Send your application to the Board of Graduate Studies. Please note that the Board of Graduate Studies will not accept applicants until they have been formallyaccepted by the Department of Psychiatry, following an interview.
